Talking
about sockets or power strips may sound like the last thing you want to
do. Sockets are white, boring and they are everywhere.
However, it shouldn’t be that way! In
the hands of creative industrial designers they can become really cool
home accessories. To prove it, we want to show you these 10 really
creative socket and power strip designs.
Which one would you pick for your home?
1. Power Strip Swintus
Svintus power strip really pigged up and
technically is a strip no more, but rather a multi-snout cutie that you
will not want to hide behind a couch. It’s pink, yet a fully functional
device with seventeen snout-plugs. (Designer: Art Lebedev Studio)
2. The Ramo Branch Multi Tap
The Ramo Branch Multi Tap is a dramatic
representation of power consumption and how gadget-dependent we are. It
looks more artistic than practical and can literally grow to branch out
by simply fitting in modular socket stubs. The tree may look good but I
won’t promise beauty in the ensuing wiring chaos. (Designer: Eunsung Kwon)
3. Rotating 360°
Rotating 360° is a
multi-outlet socket which allows each socket on it to rotate. It offers
enough space for different shaped plugs to plug in just by rotating each
socket in different directions. Besides, each socket has different
color and can connect each other, so user can easily increase or
decrease the number of sockets for his or her multi-outlet socket and
choose different colors depends on user’s need. (Designers: Cheng-Hsiu Du & Chyun-Chau Lin)
4. Draw Rose
A vase full of Rose Plugs. (Designer: Han Hye-jin)
5. Electrici-Tree
Electrici-tree is a three-branch
daisy-chainable rubber extension lead. Cast from real tree branches.
Magnets in the back of each socket hold it to specially designed metal
plates or any metal furnishings like radiators, filing cabinets, table
legs etc. (Designer: Vahakn)
6. Rambler Socket
Rambler Socket maybe the solution most of us are looking for as far as extension cords are concerned. (Designer: Meysam Movahedi)
7. Movable Power
This power strip allows you to change the strip, not your space. (Designer: Jeff Carter)
8. Electroman Surge Protector
Meet a powerful man who is more than a
boring power outlet. Perfect for home, school or office, his legs and
arms have three-prong sockets with enough room even for the biggest
adapter. He features a circuit breaker switch and grounded plugs for
safety, and is a fun alternative to the standard, clunky multi-plug. ( buy )
9. Pivot Power Strip
Flexible power strip. (Designer: quirky)
10. Wire Pod
Joris Laarman’s WirePod is a flexible
gray power pod that begins with a three-prong plug and branches out into
four curled arms, each with a single three-prong socket. Its arms and
body roll and unfurl as needed to adjust for your functional living
space. (Designer: Joris Laarman)
