There
are many important things when choosing good speakers, starting with
the price, size and sound quality, and ending with your room acoustics.
Every audiophile would say that choosing speakers based on what they
look like is the stupidest thing to do. Basically, it’s like judging a
book by its’ cover.
However, we did the opposite and
handpicked 15 cool and stylish speakers based solely on their looks.
Well, I’m sure there’s more than a few audiophiles who want to kill me
now, but we are a design site, for God’s sake!
1. Speak-Er
A speaker is a device that converts
electrical energy into sound waves. It’s also someone who expresses in
language. So if you combine those two definitions together to form some
sort of iconic gesture to retain both aspects, you get the Speak-er.

2. Moonlight Speakers
The polyethylene spheres can be used inside your living room or out
on your deck to get the party mood going, streaming groovy tunes along
with their energy-efficient LED light. (Designer: Moonlight USA)
3. Woofer Speakers
These woofers hold the midst between an addition to your sound system
and your loyal 4 footed companion. They are engineered by a
professional audio studio, and sound remarkably well. (Designer: Sander Mulder)
4. Pig Speakers
Japan’s I.D.E.A. has created a new set
of free-standing speakers that resemble cute little pigs. Available in
white, black, gold, or pink, the ceramic objects have a built in
circular speaker in their bellies and an audio jack where the tail would
have been to connect your ipod or mp3 player. (Designer: I.D.E.A.)
5. MegaPhone
A ceramic form, simple and organic in shape, is gently contoured and designed to amplify and optimize sound output. (Designer: en&is)
6. 500 XL
Sometimes bigger IS really better, especially when it comes to sound. (Designer: Fred&Friends)
7. Soundhive
Hive is a simulated surround sound
speaker system. As of now the market only has two options – either
spread speakers around the room for the real experience or invest in a
sound bar which usually consists of a long bar housing anywhere between
8-30 small speakers pointing in every direction for a simulated
experience. (Designer: Oskar Daniel)
8. Magic Spheres
In order to have a more enjoying music, make around space harmonious with your favorite music. (Designer: Morteza Faghihi)
9. Hangin/Bowlin
This is a simple speaker with three
speaker elements in one 20 cm diameter ball or globe. It voices out in
every direction so there is no need to try to direct it, thus visually
it can be this simple. It can be either hanging from the ceiling or just
standing on a table. The case could me just plastic mesh or covered
with textured fabric. (Designer: Sanne Salovaara)
10. Hearring
Of course, these are not speakers, per
se, but hey, they’re still technically a pair of little speakers.
HEARRING’ is about taking the concept of ‘urban lifestyle’ to the next
level. The crystal functions as the ‘call control button’, using the
crystal clarity to represent the earphone status by different colors.

11. Sound Garden
JVC created modular multi-directional
speakers and subwoofer powered by an internal amplifier. It’s also made
of totally renewable, sustainable materials as summarily represented by
the cute little bonsai. (Designer: JVC)
12. Subsonic Chair
The Subsonic chair is like sitting on a
rocket. 300 watts of pure bass will literally move you around the room
with two subwoofers, two midrange, and two high end tweeters. Simply
plug your game machine into the ports on the back of the chair, and hang
on. (Designer: Greg Ball)
13. Leafbud
A little bud sometimes sprouts from a
gap of stones or rocks. This is like a sound coming out from earphone
hole connected to a cold machine like mp3 player or other music player. A
bud split opens from a gap motived our design. You can set up on a
flowerpot-shaped cradle and use it whenever you need it. Leafbud is made
of flexible material. You can connect Leafbud to any music player that
has earphone jack and enjoy your music through upside of leaf which is

14. Peas Speakers
Each pod holds 7 wireless bluetooth
speakers. Only one possesses the one ring to rule them all because it
controls global volume. Each sphere is powered by a lithium ion
rechargeable via induction when placed in the pod. The system doesn’t do
surround sound since it can’t separate channels, but it’s a good way to
fill a large area with a mixed stereo track. (Designer: Lu Le)
15. Hendekagram
“Hendekagram” is an extension of
earphones, it can be connected to various portable audio equipment such
as an mp3 player, an ipod and a computer. (Designer: qed)
16.FlatSonic
It’s thin, it’s compact and really fills a room with sound. (Designer: Oliver Thiele)
17. Dreyfuss Special
The product takes its name from Henry
Dreyfuss, fellow industrial designer, whose most enduring design is a
series of phones which were used over the world for 50 years.

18. Nautilus Speakers
The Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus is
recognised worldwide as an outstanding loudspeaker which continues to
shape the direction of the audio industry to this day. Much sought after
by cognoscenti, it has been unashamedly designed with the serious
audiophile in mind, not only because of its size and shape but also
because of its active design – the crossover network is positioned

19. Orb Speaker
The speaker cones are attached to a spider-like structure which is invisible from the outside. (Designer: Pieter Maes)
20. Ferguson Speakers
With a high level of clarity, detail and
dynamics, these precision moulded speakers were created for music
connoisseurs. (Designer: Ferguson Hill)
