Royal Mail Unveils Beautiful Set of Stamps that Shows off Some of Britain's Most Famous Landmarks

They are some of Britain's most beloved landmarks, drawing tourists from around the world.

So it is only apt that they are being honoured with an exclusive set of Royal Mail stamps.
The new range of 26 first class stamps shows off sights including the front door of Number 10 Downing Street, the Angel of the North in Gateshead and Blackpool Tower.

Prime Minister David Cameron was especially pleased to help launch the new set.

Posing with Palace of Westminster postman Martyn Hardy outside Number 10, the home of British prime ministers since 1735, he said: 'The UK has some of the most beautiful landscapes and fascinating heritage, things that we can all be incredibly proud of.

'I am delighted to see some of our most loved landmarks on these stamps, celebrating much that is great about our country.
'Seeing the front door of Number 10 featured on a stamp is of course particularly special.'

The Royal Mail's Special Stamps A to Z programme will initially feature landmarks from A to L, starting alphabetically with the Angel of the North in Gateshead, and Carrick-a-Rede in Northern Ireland, the Forth Railway Bridge in Scotland and Harlech Castle in Wales, among others.

Moya Greene, Royal Mail chief executive, said: 'The UK A to Z Special Stamps celebrate some of the country's best loved landmarks. It is fitting that the world famous front door of 10 Downing Street is represented, for the first time, in this Special Stamp issue.'

The new stamps will be issued from Thursday with a second series, covering letters M to Z, issued in April 2012.
